Due to limited space in my cabinet I'm probably not going to have room for a refugium.

Would running a GFO reactor serve as a "replacement" to having a refugium?

- 54 gallon corner tank
- Somatic 60 sump/skimmer

Not really, algae would take up both nitrates and phosphates. There are some other benefits of running a fuge like stabilizing pH etc. If it's primarily a nutrients concern I guess you could try to dose carbon for nitrates in addition to GFO. You'd have to figure out dosing etc to keep a balance between the two and not strip all nutrients from your system.

I have been dosing NoPox in my reefer 250 for months now with great sucess as it pertains to water parameters. I have no refugium in that tank. However, on my new build, I will have a refugium and plan to not dose NoPox.

Not a straight forward answer, but like mentioned above, a properly ran/maintained refugium has added benefits to just running GFO. NoPox reduced both Nitrates and Phosphates which has worked out well for my situation. If you're just looking to reduce phosphate, there are other alternatives to GFO and a refugium.
