I went to the LFS to have phosphate tested and it came back pretty high. They suggested GFO and I obliged. However, I got the stuff home and its super fine. I cant seem to rinse it clean in a filter media bag. Is it supposed to be so fine? How clean should the rinse RODI be? Thanks.

You need to put the GFO in a filter media bag.Place bag in sink. Run some water on it. Turn it over and run water on the other side. Hold it up for a final rinse. A lot of rust dust will come out at first. Dont keep mushing the bag. The more you mush the more you create dust. Then without disturbing the contents place that bag in your sump. If you can, place some floss inbetween the bag your return pump for a few min.

I was rinsing in RODI and it wouldn't clear up so I ran it under the faucet. It cleared up so I did a polish rinse in RODI. Thanks.
