Have a 65 display with a 15-20 gallon sump. Running a Simplicity 120 dc skinmer. Its been great for several months now. Established tank of three years. Starting getting some cyano after switching to AF Reef Salt. So i installed a carbon / gfo dual reactor. Only running a small amount of each. My skimmer production has dropped off drastically. Is this a concern?

Carbon addition can make skimmer produce less skimmate, ROX carbon even more so..

Yup Carbon removes DOC's much more effectively and will cause skimmer to cut back or look like it has shut down. It also goes to show how effective just a small amount of Carbon can be. I don't know if that GFO will have any affect on your Cyano because Cyano is a Bacterial thing.

So I guess this is an age old question. Do I take the carbon off line and skim as normal just running the gfo. It has got my phosphate levels down to zero so thats a plus.

Well..
I only run carbon when I am getting ready to show the tank and want clear water.. I do not run it 24/7 as I feel it is actually overkill.
Big efficient skimmer is reall the way to go IMHO...
I do run Gfo 24/7 though, a small amount
