i have the single GFO reactor from BRS, use there high capicity stuff. someone who i bought stuff off of told me to get rid of it...then at the LFS i went to today, they said always having it running. i have an ongoing issue with growing chaeto, so i have the GHA starting up again in the DT. what is everyones take on having a GFO reactor going, and what part of the sump are you putting it in?

or another way of doing it, mesh bags...advice please?

tatties,
I like tumbling Rowaphos in it's own reactor.

It's the small Aquamaxx reactor.

You need to test your phosphates first and bring them down real slow.
Buy something like the Hanna ULR Checker and follow the instructions to a tee.

cool, think i will buy some of this stuff and put in my reactor, do you rinse it first?

tatties,
I put the new GFO in the reactor and mount it back in place.
Then I cut off my Auto Top off System.

Then I open the reactor's valve to full force and discharge (the outlet hose) into an empty bucket. It usually takes about 2 gallons until the GFO clears. Then I set the outlet hose back in the sump and dial in the final tumble or shimmer rate and toss out the 2 gallons worth of rinsed GFO.

The final thing to do is to replace the 2 gallons with fresh saltwater so your salinity stays inline on your main display and turn back on the Auto Top off.

Just start off with 1/4 of a cup of GFO and take things from there.
