GFO vs MACRO Algae

I've seen one run and I've seen both. Are they really just two different options to the same end? Seems GFO is a lot cleaner and simpler.

I run GFO and I have a cheato refugium. They are not really both options to the same end. GFO only adsorbs phosphates. Macros will consume nitrates as well as phosphates and excess nutrients. And, if used in a RDP setup, can stabilize tank PH. A macroalgae refugium is also a breeding ground for pods.

I just switched over to a Algae Turf Scrubber.

it's supposed to take the place of GFO, Skimmer, etc

Scrubbers look like trying to manage a algae beast. I wonder how successful that idea is. Weekly cleaning sound potentially like a pain. But if you got to toss the skimmer and still had great levels that would be pretty cool.

I've noticed that my protein skimmer isn't producing much of anything now that I installed Carbon and GFO reactors. Have the nutrient levels just plummet?

I run both as well, my chaeto doesn't grow very well though. My skimmer still pumps out the crud but I am pretty heavily stocked.

I'd rather scrape of some algae from a screen, than clean my skimmer.

Time will tell but from what I have read and seen they look like the way to go.
