GFO vs phosphate e(or any chemical to lower phosphates)

My phosphates are a little higher than I’d like them(0.35) and I plan to do something g to lower them
Just don’t know if I want to run a reactor with some GFO or just get some phosphate remover chemicals and call it a day.
What’s your opinion?

I have no pox but I don’t want to drop my nitrates anymore than what it is so I figured that wasn’t the option to go with just yet

I am using seachem phosban. I like it, not as messy as gfo, but it is made using aluminum. I have used gfo also, either one make sure not to add too much and strip phos too quick. Or, you could drip lanthanum chloride into your skimmer neck and skim out the flock.

I tried using phosphate remover in a media bag. Unfortunately, it didn’t lower it to where I wanted it and it was exhausted quickly.
So I purchased THE BRS reactor. I use half the recommended amount and change it when my tests start rising. Usually about the 60 day mark. Check out my thread if you want to see it and the installation.

Should add, the phosban i have in a redsea drawstring bag chucked in my sump. No reactor or anything fancy. Add 3/4 cup in a bag, rinse, chuck it in for a few days

How much does a single small bag drop your phosphate over a few days?

It depends on your tank size.
Removing 0.2ppm in a 50g is a lot quicker and cheaper than removing it from a >200g system.

I'm daily driving a GFO for fine tuning, but when I had an occurrence with really high PO4 (not high as yours though, 0.18) I had no other choice but to use Lanthanum to knock it back to my usual levels (0.03-0.06), because the GFO media had depleted within days and would cost a fortune otherwise.

The amounts you'll be using are well below what reactors are needed for.
A bag with a really small amount of GFO in a high flow area will be enough.

Have you tried chemipure elite which already has GFO in it bagged ready to go? I have started using it instead of chemipure blue in my sump to control my phosphate.
