Can I just take my GFO offline or do I need to slowly reduce the amount until there is no more?

I took mine offline without any problems. You may want to use it until it's depleted and then toss it

That's why I took mine offline. I use BRS GFO and for my setup they recommended 6 cups a month. I ended up stripping to the point my chaeto almost died. Now that I have the Hanna ULR and can test it I use about 1 cup every 3 weeks

Yes, Just taking it offline is no problem. It may become anaerobic if there's water on it, so flush before reuse.

Good info! I ended up stripping my tank as well and the ZOAS hate it when you do that!

For me the key is to be able to monitor consumption. Tried API, Salifert and the Hanna phosphate checker and never had a reading ever. The Hanna ULR checker tells me exactly where it's at. Once I get to 20 ppb phosphorus I change it out. Also 6 cups of gfo every month was getting expensive
