10G HOT filter setup with Red Sea salt mixed to 1.025 and warmed at 79-80F with redundant heaters (due to garage location and ambient temps). NO nutrients are in the water and the water is 0.0TDS from my RODI system. I introduced some GHA samples from my DT and am running the Aqueon full-spectrum T8 24/7. On day #3 I introduced 2tbsp of BRS GFO on lowest flow using the "deluxe" mini-reactor kit that comes with the pump. Findings so far, the algae maintained mass and color with no dissolved nutrients. Sustained only with aeration and surface agitation providing gas exchange for CO2 introduction and constant lighting.

Day 1 (2/21/16 everything is brand new or sanitized before use to establish a proper control environment)

Looks like some fibers managed to stick in the suction guard. That will be a good test area for high-flow area growth and also demonstrate how much dies and makes it into the filter floss. The mass on the 2-layer floss will be a good low-flow area test.

Day 3 (2/24/16 tbsp of BRS GFO in a new mini-reactor from BRS)

Day 7 (2/28/16 (filter will be changed tonight due to GFO contamination, even after rising the loaded cartridge)

I'm going to leave this set up alone for another 7 days. I'll post pics along the way. Based on the "nutrient control" theory, this algae should be dead soon. I'm not seeing that, though.. I'm going to replace the T8 fluorescent this weekend with a basic white LED light. NOT a reef light that can potentially include UV-B LED segments, but a basic white LED fresh water hood. From my experience with those on my fresh tanks, there is zero UV emission and my plants and algae die fairly quickly.

Well.. I had an unwanted 50% water change tonight. The push-to-connect fitting on the inlet side of the housing leaked out 5G today.
Once I get the salinity back up I'll reset the growth marks.

Reeeeestart.. After salt water mixing, some of the fibers have gotten ripped up and sucked into the filter. Here's a stable pic.
My starry blenny is acting like he has an itchy tail so I have to interrupt this test again if he's not better in a few days. This is my only QT tank and the pets take priority of tests. :D

Testing interrupted yet again. I need a freaking 5.5G for this but I have no more room. The blenny is still scratching a lot and I am seeing tissue issues so the 10G tank has day 2 of furan-2 in it and the blenny. Hopefully he'll be healed up next weekend and I can start over.. again. I've had him too long to let him deal with it in the DT. I'm pretty sure he's got a nem sting from hanging around under the foot the Ritteri. I'm sure the male clown nipped at him too.
