If I have a ball size Rock full of gha is it OK to just replace that rock with a new dead rock? I have a 180 gallon with plenty of rock. Nitrates are 5 ppm.
I have gha because I'm dosing silicates due to dinos.

Why not just pull the rock and give it the peroxide method

Getting rid of the progress you've already made with the rock will just start things over.

I've done the beach method.. takes time I just want to remove and replace
It's not the rocks fault that the gha is there. Any new rock unless it's mature from another tank will do the same thing.

It's perfectly fine to do what you are suggesting but if you replace it with dead rock it will look exactly the same with GHA as others have stated.

I would pull it and scrub it real good then put the same rock right back back in. Peroxide is most likely only a temp fix as well. It will keep the rock cleaner longer though than just scrubbing though.

Ok ill do this..thanks

If it’s not too big, you could just put it in boiling water for 10 minutes. Or microwave it. GHA is not invincible. It’s a living thing. You can make it a dead thing easily. Of course, if you don’t fix what’s wrong, it’ll just get populated with new algae.
