A friend of mine is struggling with the following hair algae, he tried almost every trick (gfo, scrubbing it off, zero nutrients, excess water changes, activecarbon, etc), but no luck. It is spreading and killing his corals.. Sad times. Any ideas other than doing a full restart with fresh rocks? This is a video how it looks:

no link for the video or anything what are his parameters and what test kits are he using?

Salifert test kits for no3, kh, mg, ca and Hanna phosphorus for po4. He has 3+ years experience, keeping a mixed reef, sps corals as well.

looks like gha whats his cuc look like? he has to have a high nutrient somewhere it doesnt just grow randomly you know

if he can id manually remove as much of it by hand and start h2o dosing 1ml for ever 10 gallons ever 12 hrs until the problem is eradicated

Yes that was our idea as well, then about 3 months ago while cleaning his Jebao pump, saw a hole in the magnet. He was happy, found the cause, I think since, he changed about 3times his water volume, N/p are not detectable, but the Gha keeps coming back (at least twice a week he removes all by hand, and also using filter socks). About a month ago he also removed his sand, now it's bb.

Try to look into FLUCONAZOLE. I have read and seen some article out there of people who have had great success. It's still seems to be very new to the hobby. It supposedly eradicates GHA and Byopsis.

Hopefully this can help you out.

Finally after 6+ months of fighting with gha, he decided to use medicine
This was the last option to consider, but better than giving up the hobby. Will let you know in 2-3 weks about the effect on fluconazole in his tank.

Hope it works for you. Hopefully you can get some good pictures of its progression. Good luck.

Just talked to him. Unfortunately no change, doesn't seem to improve...

My friend...lol. Doesn't take a psychologist to figure out it's you. If it isn't you, your friend doesn't care as much as you and has bad maintenance practices. They should be on the forum looking for answers.

Well, not everybody speaks english, we are also on a local forum. Thought will post it here as well and we might get some help or ideas what to do. Your comment doesn't seem helpful with his problem (or my problem, as you think). If you can not help, please leave your negative feelings elsewhere.

I had that same GHA in my last tank. It's high nitrate and or phosphates. How much does he feed?

no3 0, po4 0,04, feeding twice a day

He moved last september and had to take apart then reassemble his setup. Same system was running for about 3 years without problems. Since he moved, can not get it right.

Ok. Your post wasn't helpful either: What are the parameters of your rank? What is your current maintence schedule? What is the size of your tank? What are your current inhabitants? There are a million questions I could ask you about your tank since you provided zero input about your tank.

I agree. He isn't helpful at all, and pretty rude.
