It really can be way out, it's just a plastic needle, I used one for years. Even just buying a new one to see if there is any difference is better than guessing.

Turbo snails and a longspine urchin keep mine clean. Pincushions never did much and I couldn't keep one alive more than a few weeks. But the longspine isn't completely reef safe. He'll eat clove polyps, GSP and montipora too. I keep him well fed with nori sheets to keep him off the corals.

As stated, you'll have to remove the long stuff by hand, they won't touch it. But once you get it short, they'll scrub it clean right down to the rock

Also, my pincushion even destroys long strands of algae when it finds them
Would getting a foxface or small tang be better than the CUC?
My friend has a 180 that would be willing to take it if I end up getting one when it gets older.

Love the long spined urchins, I had 2 a long while back and they are great for GHA, but will destroy everything in its path if you're not careful lol

I got some expensive palys (Hyper Jubilees) that I dont want to loose
I might get another pincushion if i get another urchin
Tuxedo urchin eats nothing but algae, will even scrape rocks if none is available.
