I change 10 gallons once a week of RO from a LFS, use RO Freshwater for top off. I only feed reef frenzy and no more than a dime size a day..

Tank has been running for more than a year and a half now in which hair algea would come and go. It hasn’t left the last 4 months and I’m at a loss. It’s awful, i suck two 5 gallon buckets of GHA out a week and it doesn’t matter. I cut lights and it doesn’t matter. I cut feeding and it doesn’t matter. I run a skimmer and it doesn’t matter. I’ve completesucked out the back chambers of sediment and it doesn’t matter.

I just don’t know what to do anymore.

PS. The skimmer is a the elite 2 skimmer from mode aquariums, it works well but I still never saw a major difference in algea growth. It’s not pictured as I’m waiting for a motor replacement.

A couple of Mexican turbo snails will mow that right down.

Second on the turbos, I have two huge ones that I got for this same issue in my tank. I also got a long spine urchin and he is mowing that down as well. I would try turbos and a long spine! My long spine cleans this off my corals without hurting the coral

That is an insane amount of food you are feeding. Your GHA is from a year+ of over feeding and very little export. Your rock and substrate are likely saturated with phosphate.

Well you gotta trade it off of course when the job is complete.
Not what I consider an ethical trade and to that end it does not address the issue. Just a waste of a creature and not a fix for the problem.

I already see your issue- Tank is next to a window and the UV is having a private party. UV will penetrate shades/blinds/curtains. Place a sheet of black construction paper from walmart on the side facing the window, which will cut this drastically. Then pull off as much as you can by hand and scrub the rest with a firm toothbrush and some 3% hydrogen peroxide. . . .. Best done outside the tank in a container of tank water.
Return roch to tank, reduce white light intensity and number of hours of white lighting and add some snails such as :
Astrea
cerith
turbo grazer
trochus

A Pencil urchin

8-10 Caribbean blue leg hermits

Are you using RODI water or tap water from the faucet ?
What is your phosphate level?
