This is a public service announcement - because this gear is unsafe. Full stop.
Recently I purchased a good chunk of GHL gear - this was my decided go-to choice for a Reef computer equipment, especially after the 'partnership' between Apex and BRS.
I purchased a Profilux 4, a 2.1 doser, and the KH Director and doser. 4 pieces of gear overall - and I have to say that Im baffled by some of the design choices on this gear.
For example - the KHD - why would you EVER put the waste water output directly on top of the power input? This is not a solid connection to the waste water line. It can easily be disrupted and leak, causing a fire. And why would you EVER make it so that the power input has no shielding from any possible water inlet? Its just a straight basic electrical plug. We're working with water here GHL - saltwater at that - which is conductive!
Why would you EVER sell equipment that is designed to be 'stacked' - but yet the equipment is not water proofed in the event of a leak? We're talking Fire hazards here.
In my case - the KHD has leaked on the front right corner of the unit. The probe is NOT leaking - but that took hours of work and testing to ensure it would not leak (a plastic bolt? Really???!!!!!) - but apparently there was a slow steady leak out of the bottom of the KHD which then dripped down my other equipment. Luckily I was home and prevented a fire (the burning electrical smell alerted me there was a problem).
It's a shame that these very poor and dangerous hardware design choices have been made - it makes the other pieces that are decent quality unusable due to concerns about safety.
