Increase to 3.75

My concern is we are not keeping up during the day and it just keep dropping.

8:30pm is your lights out.

Your testing is 12am, 4am, 8am,12pm, 4pm and 8pm.

I mat also change to 6am,10am,2pm,6pm,10pm,2am

We want the detect and lower the dosage amount faster and know when to do it once lights are out.

But for now 3.75.
 
12pm test shows 7.8KH, new adjustment 11%. Have raised the base dose to 3.75ml (the KHD rounds it up to 3.8ml).

Before installing the KHD I was dosing 80-90ml per day to keep up with the demand.
 
Curious as to whether changing the other "indexes" to none from pump 1 will make a difference...

I set my others to None by default it was a good catch by @WWIII, it may so now we wait and see :)

3.75ml per dose is going to be on the 90ml side, the 80ml would 3.5ml per dose would been the low end. So lets see how we do.
 
I would also run the dosing heads that are responsible for dosing the 2 part at speed 0 or speed 1 at the most. It will be more accurate the slower they go when dosing so few ml. I would personally recommend speed 0 for sure when under 5ml
 
Ok it dropped .1 which is ok it should be dosing more now to keep up the next test will tell us how it doing.
 
Test at 8pm: 7.8KH, adjustment 8%.

I did a 10% water change at around 07:15pm but that shouldn't have had an impact: the salt I use mixes at around 8KH and it was only 10%.

4am: 7.9KH, adjustment 5%
8am: 7.9KH, adjustment 4%

So far so good. Won't know whether changing the other indexes to None has made the difference or not.

Still haven't had the opportunity of reducing the carbonate dosing pump speed to 0 or 1...
 
Ok we need a fulll 24 hours of tests of no changes to the tank, including water changes to make 100 percent sure it is correct. If it remains at 7.9 what we will need to do then is a 1 time dose to
Place it Back af 8.0.

But glad to see it running steady now we are close :)

If I calculate the difference in KH between the KH I should have after four hours given the dosing amount (with the adjustment) and the KH that is measured every four hours, I'm consistently under by around 0.2-0.3KH.

Therefore, my conclusion is that I need to increase the base dose before making a manual adjustment.

So what I propose is:

1. Increase base dose to 4ml (from current 3.8ml).
2. Monitor for 24 hours.
3. If necessary, adjust KH one time with a manual dose adjustment.

After the above I should be dialed in, at least for the current alkalinity consumption rate in my tank.

Increasing to 4 should not be a problem. We already know it working correctly because no wild swings.

Technically speaking your entire day yesterday you fluctuated by .1. You started at 7.9’and ended at 7.8 :), I was hoping to see it go up to 7.9 at 8am. But we are very close.

Go ahead and increase to 4.0 and let’s watch for another 24 hours.

Measurements since noon yesterday (base dose increased to 4ml before the 11:30am dose):

12pm: 7.9KH, adjustment 7%
4pm: 7.9KH, adjustment 7%
8pm: 7.8KH, adjustment unknown but assuming 10%
12am: 7.7KH, adjustment unknown but assuming 15%
4am: 7.9KH, adjustment 6%
8am: 7.8KH, adjustment 11%

I think my alkalinity consumption is going up ;Happy.

I will reduce the carbonate dosing pump speed to 0 this weekend and re-calibrate. @WWIII you have a valid point about better accuracy at lower speeds, thanks! I was reading that the basic standalone BRS dosing pump runs at 1.1ml/minute...
