So I am wanting to get a controller to do my water testing and dosing for me and control misc equipment. I am stuck between apex and ghl. Which should I get?

Exactly for that purpose I switched from APEX to GHL.
I think both are good. Here's my reasoning for GHL:

- I want to dose multiple (at the moment 5) additives (Sangokai KH, Ca1+2, Nutri 1+2, DIY mix, ...) -> the DOS only comes with 2 channels and thus is very expensive.
- the TRIDENT is hardly available in Germany (might not be an issue any more in the US)
- the KH Director is reliable
- there will be a ION director available 03/2020 that delivers more measurements that the Trident -> calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, and nitrate

What I liked more with the APEX:
- nicer GUI
- programming more like programming than configuring (I do code, so I like that)

I can only tell you why I chose Neptune over GHL. Both seem quite competent, but living here in the US there seems a much more robust support community. The opposite may be true if you live in Europe.....

GHL has more extensive testing capabilities, but I would expect Neptune to do the same eventually. Bird in the hand though.

If you already have a compatible Apex, then going with the Trident makes the most sense. It’s a pretty tightly integrated setup with the DOS, easy to configure, and as mentioned above the support community is extensive. See my detailed thread on the Trident: https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/trident-hands-on.596716/

Love my trident.

(ignore the crazy graphs, was doing a water change lol)
