Hi everyone,

I was wondering about peoples experience in using the profilux through the phone app. I don’t own a windows laptop (I can borrow when really needed), so 99% I intend to do through the app.

Thanks in advance!

Besides the initial set-up and firmware updates, I rarely use a PC compared to the phone app.

Major equipment or logic changes I'll use GCC or MyGHL.com (browser version of the app) so that I'm not working on a 5" screen, but they could be done in the app.

I don't know if there is anything that would require a PC over the app, besides firmware updates. These require hardwiring.

Been using GHL and Apple devices only from the start (6 years now).
The only item you cannot update on GHL P4 or all GHL devices is the Firmware.
The wifi firmware you can update:

Programming and monitoring can be done from the app. You can also load the app on Mac.

App could use some polish, it is not in a league of Slack or Facebook.

But compared to other reef apps like Syna-G Cloud for Maxspect Gyre XF pumps it is far ahead.

But once set up and running the GHL devices from my experience are very robust.

I´ll think that the initial setup is easily done by both the app and a webbrowser. As said before update of local webserver and WiFi firmware is easily done by using the local connection and any webbrowser on any computer (any OS) But still you need to update P4 basic FW and PAB devices with help of a PC (or a mac running a virtual windows machine) and USB connection. I think that you also can do the initial setup trough the inbuild small screen.

As I remember now - there is still one thing that you must do with the small inbuild screen - configure virtual probes.

Sincerely Lasse

Just to add, probe calibration is also done through the small screen. At least I don’t think the app allows it.

Kh -Director has the option to calibrate the pH probe but the app didn’t work for me.

The app has been updated recently so the probe calibration may be possible with it.

You are living in the past - calibration with MyGHL, local webserver and app have been possible for a rather long period

Have I…

I bet it is because I refuse to jump through the hoops to update the firmware’s….

Good to know it is available now…

It’s very clunky like all GHL software. I sold mine and switched to Hydros. I would rather no controller at all than deal with Profilux again.

Yes it was with this FW you could do that - it was released in December 2022

Latest FW is 1.1.4.9

Thank you all for the responses! How often to firm ware updates happen? Monthly/quarterly/annually? And can one operate with an old version for lets say a year without updates?

It depends. IME - in the past (before 2019) there is normally a FW update once a year but if new products is released there will be updates of FW. My update strategi is to do the WiFi/webserver update as soon as possible (in most case you do that through the local web connection with WiFi - through a webbrowser or your phone) but wait with the basic FW till I really need it (new devices or new features that I want) Since late 2019 till now it has been around 10 FW updates but it has also been a lot of new things released. You can see the update history here. If a new version of GCC is released - I always check the update log. IMO - its not the main FW update of P3/P4 that needs a lot of work but a PAB update can be a challenge because you need to do it with every actual device. I have six units of dosing pumps (5 pcs of Doser 2.x and one maxi 2.2) - I was running most of them on old FW but could not use the new features that was introduced 2023-24 (very slow dosing as an example), today - I have all updated and I love the new features. Many PAB devices do not need any FW updates - they are perfect from the beginning but some is still developed.

Sincerely Lasse
