Got an exquisite firefish about 2 weeks ago and he’s been doing great! When I first got him he was shipped in the cold snowy weather, he was floating upside down in the bag with no movement, looked dead. But I acclimated him and slowly bounced back. First 2-3 days he was hiding away but came out to eat everyday but back to hiding. Now he’s out swimming in the same open spot of the tank all day, occasionally he’ll swim throughout the tank but he stays on his side. He’s a great eater, was feeding every day but decided to space it out to every other day with mysis and prime reef flakes. I noticed his gills are appearing reddish color that I don’t think I noticed before, I’ve kept check of my water parameters and no signs of high ammonia in my tank, and he doesn’t appear to be breathing fast or heavy or anything, he seems super healthy, but the red gills are bothering me.. I heard they turn that color from lack of oxygen from the burn.. but how do I fix him up? In other words how do I help restore his ability to get proper oxygen? Anyone who’s had firefish with the same problem or other fish please leave your feedback! Thank you
