Give me a good reason not to get one!

I always wanted one and now I am upgrading to a 68g with room to spare..
I heard a few instances where they got caught in pumps or other equipment and I had a salesmen at a FS tell me he would never get one because they will attack and bother corals and the move into places you may not want them and your stuck!.

Ok all that being said, I would still love a colorful BTA. Pleases state good reasons why I should not get one and is there covers or something I cn use to keep them from getting stuck in equipment?

There are a lot out there! Can't all be bad!

When you think you tank is big enough, it won't be.
they can grow immensely in the right conditions

Ecotech has the grill cover to Help reduce the kill by mp pumps problems. Also, there are some videos on you tube showing you how to make the nems happy so they don't walk around which eliminates the problem. My nem has not walked for over 2 years since i got it and the guy I got it from said it did not moved in his tank for 1 year either...

So it is possible. .. just do more research

Its fine in a specie only tank, few nems, some clowns, but other then that I agree that they sting and kill coral, move around where you don't want them, forget that!

Years ago I had a huge one that did great for years never moving and always staying put. Till one day it decided to let go and float around my tank stinging and killing everything that it touched. SPS, LPS and fish alike. I lost over $1000 in livestock. The worst part is it ended up getting sucked into my 802 powerhead that I was running and ended up as a puree o la anemone into the water. It turned my tank so milky by the time I got home I had to do almost a full tank water volume water change just to clear it up. I have not added one into my main tank since. Only in a species tank.

I've done it in a larger tank, 120g. Like someone said they can grow quickly, but if you are prepared to remove it when it gets too big problem solved. Just make sure if you want both fish and anemone to pair up you get them paired to start with.

OK, after reading what works for one doesn't necessary work for others and the latter is similar to what I have heard and I have lots of coral so forget it! I love them but maybe one day I will run 2 tanks and limit what I put in the second tank. I appreciate everyone opinions!

I love them to. I set up a 46 gallon bow front with a Flame bubble tip anemone with a pair of skunk clowns just so I could have one. But they are beautiful floating treacherous stinging death machine's when things go wrong.

Since the OP has already given up on the subject, I am not sure any one still cares about this thread, so I won't say much. My nem is almost 3 years in my 55 gallon tank and it has gone 1.5 tines bigger; still not doubled in size. I don't feed it much if not at all. It only has whatever the clown(s) give it and the light source. It is my center piece and at 1 point I only wanted 2 clowns and a nem in my tank
AND yes it stinks the heck out of all the near by corals.

Thanks for your input! I care about every comment! I am learning so much from all the posters here.. I have experienced so much death in this hobby already I guess if I can help it at all Ill avoid it where I can.
I thought owning a nem would be the coolest thing!! But I heard both good and bad and I guess I'm not ready to take a chance. I was leaning that way all along but I was hoping to hear other reasons to change my mind.. Having it for 3 years is great! if I knew it would stay put I would find a nice spot so it can be alone..

2. Tanks that shouldn't have Anemones.

This is kind of a general statement and I'm not saying you shouldn't have a Nem if it's not your most important piece, but it can be a real eye opener/food for thought type thing when you consider if the risk is worth the reward.

Very well put. For me, this tank, it's not. That being said, an additional tank may be in my future!

I have 180 gallon tank . Two Rose Bubble Tips. ( one split)
They are well behaved . Do not move a lot.
Been in same place about 2 years.
Before , it moved somewhere in back , underneath , so it went about 9 months hidden.
A friend has a 75 gallon tank that has spawned at least 20 new anemones . That can be problematic . But he gives some away.

Get a high end rock flower nem. They are more well suited for Reef tanks because for the most part they stay wherever you put them, they reach a max size of 8in, and they also don't pack as much of a punch as btas. I have one that's resting on my Joe the coral acro for about 3 months and no damage whatsoever.

I have to admit bta's can and will get out of hand in time. Give them alot of room. I started with one and ended up with 10 in a year and a half. Traded and sold all of them because they grew so well and over took some area that I didn't want them to go. No If you want a nem/clownfish only tank. Go for it. If you want a BTA to split do a large water change or change their environment(new tank) (my largest was 10-12" across) smallest the size of a dime.

Yea that's my faviorate one! And yea they are a "stay put" nem. Also unlike btas, rock flower nems are sexual as opposed to asexual. So you would have to have a couple or so in order for reproduction to occur because rock nems don't have a sexual demographic.

I had 3 beautiful rock nems. The peppermint shrimps take 2 down. I killed all the shrimps and now 1 left. He walked some where in the behind the rocks and I don't know if it is still alive. Too many mushrooms in that area and it might have been gone already. $180 down the toilet.

OH NO!! I have a sweet pep shrimp I can't imagine doing that....I think I still mat try a rock nem once i'm more established in my new tank....
