I see the other post about the dejardini, but this is about the pacific sailfin. I'm putting my baby triggers into a 125 in 2-3 weeks, they are about 1.5". I'd like to add a tang and the only tang I like that you can find at a small size is the sailfin. I frequent another sight where people just flat out lie about growth rate and size, I really can't be nice because that's how ridiculous it is. I'm not as familiar with growth rates of tangs and more specifically the sailfin tang. I'm hoping for at least 3 years maybe 4, from my experience that's about how long I'll have with the triggers. I'm good with putting them in a huge aquarium after that, I have friends in the business that can place my fish in huge aquariums around Las Vegas.

So my question is (on average obviously): if I get a sailfin under 2" could they comfortably live in a 6' 125g for 3-4 years, am I looking a 1", 2" a year. I know they are tall so that's why I'm concerned as well.
Thank You for honest responses in advance.

Sailfins are one of the fastest growing tangs, but that being said, you should definitely able to comfortabley house one for 3-4 yrs in a 125.

My sailfin has grown from 2" to 4" in 6 months. I agree with one being fine in a 125 for a few years

Sorry to hijack the post but i got a question also.
Do you all think a 125-150 would be to small for a few tangs for there for ever home?

It depends on the type of tangs you are talking about.......

My zebra sailfin must be a dwarf then because I've had him for 10 years now and he's only about 6-7" at the most (I haven't taken a ruler to actually measure him). But he's a slowpoke for sure!

On the other hand, my Kole tang is growing like a weed! Good thing he doesn't get that big. [emoji228]

I have had the Pacific Sailfin in a 56 gallon tall tank since 2008 got him at 3 inches. He was 6inches when I moved him to a 75 gallon and he loves the extra swimming room. When in the 56 gallon I had live rock that covered the bottom of 24 inches of the 30 inch long tankand from front to back he had 5 inches of swimming room. In the tank also was a Coral Beauty, Hoevens Wrasse, Flame Hawk, Snowflake Moray eel, Heniochus Butterfly, Kole tang 3inches, Foxface 3 inches. All were moved to the 75 gallon back in March. Since then the Sailfin has grown another inch or 2 he remained 6 inches for almost 3 years. Been keeping salt water fish since 1979 and with the exception of a Panther Grouper have not had a fish out grow its tank of moderate size. As for aggression they Foxface, Coral Beauty and Sailfin actually became more aggressive in the 75 gallon than in the 56 which was 18 inches shorter and much less swimming room. The aggression usuall only last a day after adding another fish.

I have a yellow and kole in my 125 for a couple years now they're not too small anymore but it will be their forever home. I don't think i ever remember seeing any aggression from either one in this tank. But there used to be a couple other larger tangs that out grew the tank and we're sold. A huge mata tang yikes got to about 13 inches. Really fast too. I'll be adding a large powder blue to this tank soon too coming from my 4' 200g.

I had a desjardin sailfin in my 200g for a couple years. He grew large fast but not too big for the tank. Only sold him because i wanted a cbb and he did not. There were 5 other tangs with him at that time that were also sold and replaced due to the disagreement we had about the cbb. But final tang count on my 200 will be only convict and purple tang.
