Give your White Worms a bath

Resurrecting an old thread. I am interested in getting a culture if someone would like to ship them, I’d cover the shipping. I do have a couple questions though. What kind of soil do you use? How do you separate worm from dirt for feeding?

How I separate them is I scoop up a bunch of them with the dirt and put them in a small container. I fill it with tap water 5 or 6 times and pour it out after the worms sink. That leaves me with some big clobs of dirt and wood chips. After a few minutes most of the worms huddle together like they are doing the macarana and I suck them out with a baster. The rest of the worms and dirt I put in a net to eliminate the water and dump it back in the culture.

I use regular potting soil but if you can find it without fertilizer it's better.

I also use some seed starter mixed in with organic potting soil.

The redish yellowish stuff is dried cat food. Thats what I feed mine. Tupperware containers 10 x 6 and about 2 inches deep

Do they congregate on that mesh by themselves? That would make harvesting them for feeding way easier.

That should work. That is a lot o worms.
They do hang onto the mesh somewhat.
I found " the rinse with water a few times" in a separate container the fastest way.

Yep. They are very small white worms. They changed their webpage from when I bought some from them. I suppose some folks thought they were getting "fishing" sized worms and were disappointed when they got these very small worms for their gardens. This company sells lots of garden seeds, etc. You'd have to use a very, very small fish hook for them. LOL. My fish love them. They are about the same size as Tubiflex worms lots of people feed freshwater fish. As a matter of fact, I use a Tubiflex worm feeder (those cone shaped devices) to feed the white worms in my tank sometimes. But yeah, they are very small. When my clownfish was very small it loved them. But the bigger fish loved them too.
