Glad I flood-proofed my RODI

I keep a small 55G reef tank and need less than 10G of RODI/week (I use some to soften the water in my FW tank too).

Not too long ago I set up my system so it would be portable and could run it in a shower stall. That way any leaks or overflows would just go down the drain.

So I just realized I left it running for a good 4-5 hours. Aside from wasting water and burning though a bit of DI resin, no harm done.

Thank God you did. Thanks for sharing. I tried myself to flood the basement with rodi water, the floor drain prevented me from having a new basement sized fish tank. ( plus the trouble my wife would have with this). My drain and product container share a sink now.

Yep, I hear you.. I fill my rodi bucket in the slop sink. I also set a timer since it takes about an hour to fill.

Back in the day I would run it directly to my sump, until one night when I forgot it on and ended filling the sump to almost overflowing (75g sump). Luckily somehow, some way, the return pump failed that night so the DT ended up being fine. Crazy.

I use an inexpensive leak alarm with the probe placed an inch or two below the top of the fill jug.

I've been petrified about overflowing something. A timer goes on before the water. Plus float valves.

I use both the Flood Guardian as well as a float valve with an auto shutoff. Y’all are playing some risky games haha

Ha ha, I just forgot mine on Friday. Saturday morning I went to the basement to check on a fish that I put in the sump and heard trickling water! I was worried that either my fuge or sump were leaking. I was relieved to find out that it was my brute can overflowing with RODI water. It's a concrete floor with a drain nearby so it was not too bad. Tour shower stall situation is even better!
