So u purchased 2 paired clowns 4 days ago. 2 days in 1 clown has been on the bottom breathing rapidly n not eating. My nitrites spiked to 5ppm once I added them. They are my first inhabitants. Tas no cycled n I had all zeros for a week till I added the fish. Ammonia is still 0 but nitrites r 5. I've done 2x water changes 20-30% of my 60 gallon tank. What should I do. My lfs said to do water change n the come in n test the water this weekend. Like I said 1 is fine but the other is on his way out by the looks of it. I'm super upset over it n dont want to lose it. Recommendations?

Ok, are there any visible marks on the fish? Spots, sloughing skin, mucous, etc?
How did you cycle the tank and for how long?
How are you testing for ammonia?

Hes pale in color n the white part of his body looks like its dry. Tank cycled via dr Tim's bacteria n dosing ammonia. Took 23 days. Added ammonia for 4 days after cycle to make sure n I got 0 for nitrites n ammonia. Testing ammonia via api test kit.

I’m going to guess without a pic you are probably dealing with Brooklynella (clownfish disease). If. You can post a pic we can get you a definitive answer and a treatment.

Hard to tell from the pics, I would probably do a FW dip because if it’s brook or flukes he should get some relief. If it looks like a dusting over him it could be velvet.

You mention stress, is he being harassed by the other clown? Or by another fish?
