OK-Hear me out. If you have a large sump in a different area (the garage), would it be possible to have a glass or acrylic lid over your main display tank and be OK? I know it is very important to have a large surface area for O2 exchange and heat transfer but I am looking to minimize the evaporation in my living room and reduce the amount of dog hair and toys (I have two boys) that end up in the tank. I will be using LED for lights so little heat added and the large sump will be in the garage.

Thanks for the input.

I have a full glass lid on my 120 gallon tank and just the sump opened. No issues at all and the tank is very healthy. 2-3 gallons a day evaporate from the sump. I suggest using glass as acrylic will bow over time and discolor.
