What is everyone's thoughts on tops. I am currently in the process of upgrading to a 65g tank. Should I run a glass or acrylic top?

What are some of the advantages and disadvantages?

Thank you!

I don't run any tops on mine, just because it holds in too much heat. I have a fish room so very tight enclosed space, it comes with risks though, if you have suicidal fish you need to do either egg crate or something or take the risk of losing them.

Glass tops here. I added them when I added my golden dwarf moray eel about 5 years back. Definitely cut back evaporation. Other than monthly cleaning I see no disadvantages. Par reduction, even with saltcreap is very minimal. HTH

Glass is heavy and can shatter, but does not bow or warp.

Acrylic is much lighter but will warp like crazy.

There are other options using other types of plastics and clear netting.

I was the first one to start making these over 5 years ago.
