I noticed glass ATO’s are very noisy. The pump is just so audible inside my 20 gallon class tank.

But inside the Home Depot 5 gallon bucket it’s extremely quiet.

My tank is 260 gallons, and I believe a 20 gallon is the perfect size so I don’t need to refill every 2 days.

Is there a way I can reduce noise in my glass 20 gallon from the pump?

I assume the noise is from the pump vibrating against the glass. Try to position the pump to be suspended off of the bottom and away from any walls. I use the tubing to achieve this and once suspended, the noise is gone.

Those can be a bit noisy. My brother took some pvc and made a little container for his. Wrapped the pump in a silicone mat and slipped it in the pvc pipe. It quieted it down a bit.

Thank you both! I took both of your ideas and came with a genius idea!

I put my pump inside a styrofoam cup and I ripped a hole in the bottom of the cup so water can enter.

The result? An EXTREMELY silent ATO system! Just don’t use with kalkwasser because the styrofoam may melt.

Edit: I searched styrofoam reef safe and although coral sellers work with styrofoam to float corals, I see people mention that overtime styrofoam can leach chemicals.

I will look for a different product to muffle the sound, but I’m happy to learn that it was the vibration that is causing the loudness.

Made this PVC contraption with a hole drilled on the bottom to allow water to enter from the hole.

I get the same silence benefits as the styrofoam cup without any risk of chemicals! Finally. A perfect solution.

I don't understand what the big deal is... I like to hear my tank running..... pump vibration, water trickle... its all part of the allure..... :winking-face-with-tongue:

HAHA I get irritated by hearing my apex outlet relays clicking on and off.
