Glass Cleaning

Well it can vary tank to tank depending on the severity of conditions(parameters, live stock, ect.) is your tank cycling? Did you dose anything new recently? Is it so much that it’s a burden and it severely effects you sight? A lot of reefers clean their glass everyday because it’s how they get their eyes and hands on the tank to look at it and interact with it.

I have 4 saltwater tanks currently. 1 of them gets a daily glass wipe down and always looks filthy (20g, 2 fish, 6 corals), 1 of them rarely gets it and always looks pristine (2og, 2 fish), 1 of them’s somewhere in the middle (55g, inverts only), and 1 is cycling so it doesn’t count lol. The one that goes crazy w the glass has the strongest lights of the bunch. Perhaps that’s your issue?

There are a few variables that can cause this. High nitrates and phosphates can cause this. Also direct sunlight or algae promoting spectrum.

I clean mine about every 2 days as I like it to look pristine, and also if your nutrient levels are raised it won’t help either.

So yes it’s normal depending on how you like to keep it

Every 2-3 days for me, it can go for a week but is definitely getting quite noticeable by then. My PO4 runs between 0.04-0.08 ppm and NO3 at 0.25 ppm or a little higher. The only algae I really get is what I clean off the glass, so I am happy with that.
