Is there any reason I need to clean my glass of the green dust algae besides for looks? I was always see copepods running around and i know it's food for my snails, so sometimes i don't want to touch it... but will it lead to other issues if i let the glass get really cloudy?

Not to sound mean but whats the point of having a tank if you cant see anything? So wouldnt you need to clean the glass to see your live stock?

Aside from restricting your view, I'm not aware of any major issues. That said, you'll likely accumulate more than your snails can eat, and if they are focused on the algae on the glass, they may ignore any algae outbreaks on your rockwork.

Well i dont usually look thru the side of my tank or back... so i was thinking of leaving those and letting the algae build up a little bit for food for the pods/snails. i would def clean them all if i was having guests over lol

ahhh ok that makes sense. didn't think about that

As the algae is allowed to grow, it tends to become more difficult to remove. What comes off easily with a magnetic scraper and regular cleaning can require more muscle, a blade and some elbow grease when you get tire of looking at it. I agree. Let your CUC focus on your reef, and not the glass.

I have a blade on an 18" handle... so as long as it comes off easily with that i'm ok with it.
