It is frustrating to do a 20 % water change and 8 hours later, I start to see green algae forming on my glass... I did adjust my lighting, but only just now.. could this be the issue?

Light is a big supporter of algae and very well be. If tank is at or near a window- would be another reason
Often directing flow towards glass will prevent adhesion of algae film to the glass.
