Hi everyone, anyone have any experience in using GLASS as a form of mechanical filtration on their mixer reefs?
Dryden Aqua makes this stuff called AFM and its used in several big commercial aquariums. -fish only from what I can tell.
Any ideas on using it on a mixed reef?

I've used a similar product on rapid sand filters. It is supposed to resist channeling and be easier to backwash. I don't know how you could use it in a home aquarium though.

Thanks Jay; the home aquarium install is quite simple in fact - the issue is “is there any pollutant in the glass/process” that will affect corals…..

In my 15+ years of Reefing, anyone who has tried to be an Early-Adopter of some technology so they can say their waaaay ahead of everyone else usually ends up flying their plane into a mountain side

I've never used glass media on a reef tank. It should be inert, and it doesn't cause any issues in fish systems.

i would assume since glass is a silica based product it would be right up there with using playground sand on the bottom
