That's a neat idea to cover the glass edges going to be using it thank you.I've used 10 and 15 gallon tanks as sumps, with relatively thin glass that I siliconed in to make dividers - might have even been picture frame glass. It worked pretty well, you just need to be careful when you're maneuvering around in there. I actually cracked one of the dividers once, but it still held water and continued to work fine for years (not that much pressure differential).
One tip I can give you: Go to an office or school supply place, and pick up some clear plastic report covers like this:

The plastic edge pieces work really great as edge protectors for the glass dividers, and make them a lot safer to work around. They're easy to cut to whatever length you need.
