I'm thinking about setting up a large frag tank for growing stuff out, etc. (as if I didn't have enough systems already). I've got the space and a stand, so I figure why not. Lol

I know I want to go glass rather than acrylic...just not a fan of acrylic as a whole due to scratches and overall life issues.

I'm trying to decide now if I want to go with buying from someone or if I want to try making one. The tank would be 60" x 24" x 10" (or maybe 12"). I'm thinking it would probably be way cheaper to diy. I've resealed tanks before, so I'm not afraid of the silicon work...wondering if I should try it or just get one made...what else should I consider? Thoughts?

What about a plywood tank? Would be perfect for a frag tank.

Sounds interesting (and less expensive than glass). I haven't ever seen one or checked them out. Got any info? I'm assuming the bottom and maybe non-display sides could be plywood with glass display panes?

i no a guy out in my area with a 100+ G plywood tank, Hooked up to 2 75G ply wood sum and refuge, and a 60G+ plywood frag tank all hooked up together. i will get you the link ":) Enjoy bud. its realy cheap only cost him about 1,300$ so far. If im not mistaken thats with his DIY 40" led setup.

But if your gonna do a DIY frag tank with Glass. Make sure you know what your doing Dan, You wouldnt want to mess up and in the long run having nightmares of something going wrong. Best to Get it done by a tank maker in your area if there is one that you no and are close with .

I would DIY regardless of material used, though heavily favor acrylic over glass for safety, longevity and ease of drilling for plumbing needs.

Cheers, Todd
