Hi,

Planning to drill a 30 in x 30 in x 18 in tank for an overflow. Choices are between glass holes 700 gph vs H2overflow of upto 1200 gph.
Do not have the money to spend for Senergy Reef and would prefer to keep drilling to only one hole .
If you have used any of these or if you have an alternative suggestion please do provide.

Regards,
Abhishek

Glass Hole +1 and you should drill 2 holes. 1 for overflow and 1 for return. that's my 2 cent

I don't know anything about the h2overflow other than that I don't like the way it looks in the tank. I had the 700gph glass holes overflow and like the way it looks much better but if I put anything anywhere near what it was rated for it was just too noisy for my liking. If you want low turn over or don't mind the noise then I'd say go with the glass holes. The synergy overflow is really nice but there are cheaper alternatives for similar overflows. There was a sponsor on here that had something close but not as nice but was quite a bit cheaper. Unfortunately I don't recall which sponsor, maybe someone else could chime in.

H2Overflow is nice. I am using it in my new build and its good.

We have the glass holes and it's great run a mag 7 on ours and it's quiet. It also feeds our brs dual reactor and a two little fish reactor off of return.

Thanks everyone for all the replies ..

Well the return is another issue as I have a ATB Flowstar 1500 that I definitely wanna use.
In case you have used an Laguna block , you know you never wanna go back from using it .. :D
I know its wayyy overpowered for my 70 gallon tank for I plan on manifold plumbing where most of the water will be returned back to the sump and a small amount will feed my MRC reactor for Aquaforest Zeomix, carbon and phos minus before returning to the tank.

Abhishek

Synergy has their new injection molded one on sale right now for 139.99 in pre-sale. It will be $199 after the introductory pricing. That is a killer deal. Honestly, I would try to find the extra 50ish bucks. Running this style overflow with a bean animal drain makes a world of difference in noise, bubbles and salt creep. I think the cheaper one that was posted above was the Elite aquatics model. I would say if you get the Elite, I would for sure get the 3 drain model. You can always put a plug in the 2nd or 3rd bulkhead if you want to run a single durso or a two drain Herbie. Of course if you wanna spend a little more we make a nice one too! :) Anyway you go you have allot of options and they are all better than standard Reef Ready overflows. There is a reason Glass-Holes has been in business so long. They are economically priced, and they work.

+1. the h20 offering looks really bad in the tank and the ones i've heard were quite loud in comparison to a silent bean drain as suggested above.

Get the synergy, you'll be able to use it for a further upgrade or sell it later as they have the best resale value. Also the best of your options.

Thanks everyone for the inputs .
For all those suggesting the new synergy overflow , can it be configured to use as a herbie instead of bean animal or use 2 holes for overflow and the third one for return ?

Yes, it can be set up for a Herbie style drain using just two holes in the external box. However, as far as I am aware, you WILL NOT be able to use the third hole in the external box as a return.
