I just have the glass planes now without the black plastic hinge and it was worth it. Just need to be more careful. I dropped one into the tank when feeding my fish and it crushed a SPS coral.

The glass planes will probably adsorb or filter out much more photons than the shadowing of the hinges. Especially in the wavelengths below 400 nm. Sincerely Lasse
