Glass tank silicone lifespan?

Have to agree on glass being the way to go. I've had 2 acrylic tanks spring leaks and none of my 6 glass do the same. Just remember rimless glass tanks will naturally be more prone because there is less support.

My 140 is almost 7 years old and no structural issues. Buy a reputable brand from a maufacturer with a good rep. Personally, I like the clarity of the acrylic tanks, but no way will I ever have one. Think scraping coraline off of a soft acrylic tank. Would be more of a hassle to keep clean and scratches will accumulate over time. Extremely difficult to avoid scratching them.

This may help you out. I bought a brand new deep blue sea 75 gallon tank 2 years ago. Had it set up for a little over 2 years. Within the last 3 weeks my tank had a major leak. Had to replace the tank. I would hold out for acrylic. It was a major pain in the butt.

I use to work at a LFS and our systems were all 75 gallon deep blue tanks. They would start leaking one at a time and we would have to re silicone them. Deep blue tanks are notorious for leaking. That being said I had a 10 year old all *** aquarium tank that I got used and I used it for another three years with no issues. I currently have a 90 gallon glass tank and I don't worry about leaks. I prefer glass tanks over acrylic, much easier to clean
