Hey guys. I'm inheriting a 79L x 20.5H x 19 W. It's one of the older style tanks that has a thick plastic brace/trim at the top.

I thought it was 12mm glass but turns out its 10mm. I cant handle that big a tank so I want to cut it to L 54 x 20.5H x 22 W. I know for the 22 bottom I'd need to get a but more glass.

Could I build this tank with (10mm-3/8) glass with top eurobrace? Preferably no center brace.

Glass thickness depends most on depth of tank. Would have to do some engineering math to know for sure about the bracing I would think.

You will want bigger later. Make it work how it is

I cant physically fit it where I am so it has to be resized. Eventually I'll go bigger but I'll always take going deeper, front to back, than longer.

@BrandonS Id really appreciate your engineering know how. In the grand scheme of things, I'm really making the tank shorter but with a little more distance front to back.

Maybe we should trade. LOL

These should help.

Went through most of those but I read a few posts from a reputable tank builder that that they are way off. Thanks though.

I think the glass will be ok with a euro brace but why are you going through all of the work to save the old glass. You are going to need to to disassemble, cut, clean and reassemble the tank so why not get new 1/2" glass and start fresh?
