Hello I am going to have a aquarium I am building but what I need to know is the glass thickness so what I'm doing is I am buying a regular aquarium and removing the trim because I need a rimless it is 75 gallon standard dimentions

In my opinion for a rimless tank I won't do anything under 1/2" thick. You probably can get away with 3/8 but then you will have bowing and more stress on the silicone

If the tank came with a support i wouldn't remove it imo because it will bow. Why don't you just build your own? If you want a lower support only you can buy it at glasscages.com and use 1/2" glass

Costly i am giving myself a challenge of building a 75 gallon display under 1000 dollars because of budget and how much money i have

Ok i will see if it is a half inch thick thanks for the tip

You might have a look here http://www.designs4aquariums.com

Just enter your dimensions and you can get complete glass cutting list and instructions for not so much $. I bought his plans for a 60g cube, but haven't gotten around to building it yet.

I know how to build it and the silicone and everything i just need some suggestions on the thickness

Glass thickness required depends primarily on the height since this determines pressure on the seams. I can tell you that for a 24 x 24 x 24 eurobraced cube, the site gave cut sizes for 5/16, 3/8 and 7/16 glass. The 150g (60 x 24 x 24) I have at home (also eurobraced) appear to be 5/8" (I will measure when I get home). Rimless, you should go for the thicker glass to be on the safe side. You definitely don't want to pop a seam...

Ok. My 90g Visio (48 x18 x 24 high) has 1/4 " glass with a standard center brace. My 150g Crystal Dynamics (60 x 24 x 24) uses 7/16" glass with a euro race all around. If you want 20" plus tall with no brace 1/2" or 5/8" might be the safest choice.

Thank you for taking the time to reply and go to the point of measuring your own aquarium i am most likley going to compare this info to some others and if this is about or exact same as them i will build my tank with these thickneses
