Hi everyone. You all have helped me over the years with my 12g nano and now I'm planning to add a larger tank. I'm just in the planning stages right now, but want to do a lot of research and get some good advice from everyone.
As of now, here's my plan:
Tank: Aqueon 36g bow front. I've had this tank for years as a FW tank and want to convert it. I've never used medication in it so after a good clean it should be fine. I plan to drill the back to avoid the hob overflow problems. Does anyone in Miami know a lfs that would do it for me?
Sump: 10 or 20g glass DIY. I'll put three compartments in it to make room for a skimmer and other equipment.
Skimmer: I'm thinking a Reef Octopus from what everyone has said but would be open to recommendations. I only have about 20" in my stand vertically to work with.
Lights: I plan on waiting to buy LEDs until I can get the ones I want. Right now it has the stock blue fluorescent bulbs. They're not strong enough for coral but that's ok because I plan to keep it fowlr for awhile until everything settles in, say 6 months or even longer.
Here's a pic of the tank and stand now. The shelf on top would have to be removed for a taller skimmer. I'd rather keep it for lights, electrical, etc. so if anyone knows a good, shorter skimmer I'm all ears.
I need advice on plumbing because I've never had a sump before. Diagrams and links to good info would be greatly appreciated!
Does this sound like a good plan?
