I had introduced a glove polyp (purple with green highlights in the 'leaves') frag and zoa frag into my nano tank (Fluval Evo 13.5) in the past month or so and they seemed to be doing well, fully open all day. But now both are kind of withdrawn most of the day, mostly closed.

The glove polyp seems to have some stringy stuff coming off it, it's purple so I don't think it's hair algae, seems more like part of the polyp.

The tank has a Sicce Voyager 1000, sometimes I wonder if it's too strong but the LFS said it was right for this tank. I've placed the glove polyp behind some of the live rock, so not directly in the flow. But I have experimented with leaving it off, doesn't seem to make a difference.

My parameters are all good, at least the ones I'm measuring - salinity 1.025, dKH 8, PH 8.4, nitrates 0, nitrites 0, phosphates 0.

Corals need nitrates and phosphates, what are you using for filtration?
I run a 2000 lph in my evo so I doubt it is flow.

Thanks for your reply.
I just have the standard filtration that's included - but two chemi pure blue nano sacks in the upper chamber of the filter, and the stock sack of white things in the bottom, cleaned regularly. I was going to get a protein skimmer but see that often as a regretted purchase. Should I have something else to support these corals?

If your nitrates and phos are zero you are over filtering already, I don't know about the chemi pure stuff.

Any fish? Po4 no3 0 is not good for the coral. The zooenthelly need those for photosynthesis.

Yes, two ocellaris clownfish, and I just added a royal gramma yesterday, all are smallish. Also two blue-leg hermit crabs, two trochus snails, three nassarius snails, an orange-dotted goby paired with a red-banded pistol shrimp (those two have been in for about a month). Tank was started in late June.

If I can bump this - I just had my water tested. Nitrates now at 1 and phosphates at .1 (point one). Calcium is only 159 and Magnesium is only 870. Those are low. Could they contribute to this problem (as well as contribute to the dinos I now realize I have)? PH is 8.1

Any recommendations to remedy the latter two? Nitrates and phosphates are coming up as I'm feeding more (was underfeeding). But best product/method to raise calcium and magnesium?
