So i bought a coulpe of little frags and bought a bottle of CorAffix Gel. i applied glue to the bottom of the frag tile, and when i dunk it in the water and try to stick it to the live rock there is absolutely no stick or hold, its instantly hard when it hits the water, is there any other glue i can use

go to the dollar store they sell glue its in a yellow package its called super glue gel* it will stay soft for a few more sec under water allowing you to place it when you want

I've used the regular crazy glue gel and the more expensive CorAffix gel. They both work the same. Your problem may have less to do with hardening too quickly and more to do with getting the flat surface of the tile to bond to the irregular surface of the rock. Or, the rock may have algae on it preventing bonding. I suggest 2 approaches. First, get a toothbrush and scrub any algae off the area you want to attach to on the rock. Then, put a good blob of the gel on the tile and hold it against the rock few a few seconds. This fist method is what I use when I want to attach a coral frag directly unto the rock. The next method is what I use for frag discs. For this second method, I use epoxy putty that you can get at any hardware store or more expensively at the LFS. I knead a thumb sized worth of putty as directed, put crazy glue gel on the frag disc, and stick the balled up epoxy putty on the disc. I then put crazy glue on the other side of the putty that's now on the disc, and stick that unto the cleaned rock surface. The putty with the surface of crazy glue will conform to the irregular surface of the rock. Crazy glue will bond the putty to the disc, and the other side of the putty also with crazy glue will bond to the rock. Works for me all the time. HTH!!!

No matter what gel glue you use it will be the sam e. As soon as it hits the water it will cause a flim to form over the blob of glue. You need to break this for it to grab hold. What i do is this, That a small ball of epoxy putty and press the frag into it and remove. Then add a small amount of glue to the hole and replace the frag. Then add another spot of glue to the bottom of the putty ball and press it into the rock where you want to place the frag. It give a very nice hold and every frag i have treated this way has seemed to encrust better then glue alone.

no, i have seen the same problem recently ... been using the coraffix glue for over a year and the last bottle i got from DFS is like the one mentioned above. i talked to them and they sent me a second bottle which seems to be fine.

go talk to where you got it from ... glue is like that if its been on the shelf for too long.

Great info!!! I didn't know u can use regular gel.... Lol... I though it would be harmful... Good to know.... Thanks

loctite brand makes a nice super glue gel in a nice hard bottle.. forget what they call it, but you can close it up and re-use easily.. doesn't get all messy and seal up..
