Question, o wise ones......when I add a new frag to my tank they come usually with a round platform they are attached to. These look horrible, and they look especially bad when I do it. I put glue on the bottom and typically when and where I need to add.....is usually not a flat or good place to put them in. Can I extract these new frags from the platform safely?

Also, I get the glue all over my fingers, which takes a hour or so to remove. AND-you can always see the excess in the aquarium around the base of the platform.

Any words of wisdom friends?

You can cut them off the plug if you like. I keep mine on all the plugs. What I do is cut the stem off the plug first. Then I take a small ball of epoxy and shape it into a small pyramid shape and put super glue on the bottom the epoxy. I mount the epoxy to the rock work in the tank and get a good flat foundation for the plug. Then I put super glue on the plug and mount that to the epoxy already on the rock. Works 100% of the time.

Also, might need to change your thread title.... LOL. If not, then I think this is the wrong forum for that. :D:D:D

I'm at work and busted out laughing at the title. I basically do it the same way as jcole. The only difference is I glue the putty to the frag first and then add some glue under the putty and press the frag putty sandwich in the spot I want. The putty conforms to the rock so there's more surface area for the glue to bond to. They sell the putty at the lfs but it's way over priced, instead just pick up some JB water weld from HD or Lowes which is the same thing and a lot cheaper.

I always remove the plug from the frag, dip in CoralRx Coral Dip, brush off rock where it will be glued, and then glue frag using a cyanoacrylate super glue (ball on bottom of frag and encircle the bottom 1/4" or so of frag).

After applying the glue to the frag, hold it under water for at least 5 seconds before placing it. It will hold better than placing it right away.

From what I've heard, bugs (such as AEFW) and/or their eggs can hide between the frag and the plug. Dipping may not be as effective when plug is still attached.

OMG! :) PLEASE tell me how I can correct ore delete this!!!

LOL. You should see a drop down menu next to watch settings and it will let you choose to edit the thread. Click that and it will let you edit the title.

I HAAATE frag plugs.

We started making them 20 years ago with 1/2" stems because that was about the smallest you could do and have concrete/agrocrete still hold together.

And despite people using plastic and ceramic now, they're still making them that size despite the thick stem being a placement issue almost all the time. (c'mon, someone market frag plugs with 1/4" stems and trim-clip-like find so you just stick em in a hole and they stay there)

Under your thread to the right, you will see the following. Click on the three dot tab and a drop down will appear to edit the thread. The title is catchy though...just saying.
