GMail telemetry going away?

Curious - what is telemetry - and why could they not just update their programming to meet googles requirements?Noticed this in my google settings, pretty sure it means telemetry will stop working. Thoughts on how to get around it?

reef-pi telemetry is pretty much 2 things: ability to see live feed of data remotely, and email notifications (which can be sent to a phone number).
The reef-pi documentation sets up the email notifications via gmail. Google is about to disable the ability for a device such as the raspberry pi to log into a gmail account.

Thanks - I thought it was probably 'reef-pi'. But just wasn't sure. BTW that is an extremely poorly worded 'message'. I can read it the way you read it - and I can also read it the way others have. But - there have to be (I would assume) parameters that the third party app can implement to continue to allow access to google mail? Hope you get it sorted it - let us know.
You can enable "app passwords" in your google account. Basically you generate a one time use password for that specific device and it will stay logged in. The difference is that your main account password never touches those unsecure devices. That is what will be disabled.
