Hey all,
I have a chance to buy 5year old setup including 60gallon cube with hydra, mp10 , rodi, eshopps medium cube sump, ato, return pump, reservoir, and some odds and ends for ~$900.

my goal for next tank is to develope comfort with acros and lps before I ultimately move and get my “forever” tank ~150gallon lagoon style. I’m coming from 25g IM lagoon mixed reef

going back and forth…this seems like a good financial decision but not a lot of people have full 60gallon build threads (most run into issues) so I’m just wondering if this isn’t an ideal set up for flexing into higher maintenance and care coral.

Thoughts?

thanks!

Seems like a good deal to me. Maybe upgrade the light to have some more spread and punch to get to the bottom. You’ll need more flow then just one mp10 too. I would buy that.

my first tank back is a 60 gallon cube. 6 months in so far and everything is running great. What issues are have you seen with people and their 60 cube? I have sps, lps, softies, and an rbta that has split for reference.

Glad to hear it—in researching the tank I just couldn’t find a lot of threads that far in, most OPs ghosted after a few months.

congrats on the success. No idea why rbta’s split - I had one in my 25 gallon now 15+ all the size of a silver dollar or smaller ‍♂️

Thank you. The only issues I can think of with the 2'x'2 dimensions are the lighting and fish selection.

The 2'x2' is great for a single light source but the 2' depth takes some planning. I run 250w metal halide with supplemental t5s.

Fish selection also takes some planning also because my maroon clowns claimed the whole tank especially once I introduced the anemone. We want to add a flamehawk but are worried it will get bullied.

Other than that, the 60 cube is a great tank that has been easy to stabilize with decent husbandry.

I started w a 60 cube then shortly upgraded to 93 cube and now wish I'd gone bigger. If it was me, I'd just go ~150g now instead of incremental increase esp if ur already planning to go ~150 eventually and finance is a factor, i.e. spend the $ once. Moving tank/livestock and getting rid of used tank/equipment are a hassle. Also, 60 cube was difficult when working inside cabinet for maintenance and limits choice when it comes to livestock and corals.
