Hi my name is Keira I'm 10 and I am very curious. I have one question about gobies and Blennys. My family has a 55 gallon tank. I have one yellow watchman goby. I don't have a top on our tank so I would like to know if you can tell me witch gobies and Blennys are jumpers. Thank you for your time.

I can tell you i have 2 firefish gobies and they hang under a rock and swim low. Also just got a scooter blenny and he is awesome, just hovers over rocks and sandbed...but that fella has different diet habbits.

To answer your question fish have a mind of there own they will do as they please. All gobies and blennys have the ability to jump out of the water if they so please dartfish which are part of the goby family are prone to jumping out. So it is very difficult to answer but I would say to be safe I would put something over the top of it. Then again I run a tank that has a dartfish and a wrasse(which are known jumpers) without a top but I will say I have been lucky. Try some eggcrate asa top, very versatile cheap and lightweight. Hope this helps your curiosity somehow.

Just about the only fish that _can't_ jump would be a seahorse. Given that gobies and blennies tend to spend a lot of time near the bottom, you'd think they wouldn't be jumpers - but they sure can do it!
I've had both an aurora goby (a shrimp-goby) and a midas blenny (an unusual blenny, in that it spends a lot of time in open water, rather than perching on the rock) jump through an eggcrate top. Firefish and dartfish, often classed among the gobies, are _notorious_ for jumping. With their slim shapes, both gobies and blennies would require a finer-mesh screen to make sure they stay in your tank.
