I’ve looked around the tank and don’t see anything, I’ve had him for about a month and he was paired with my pistol..Is it really normal for gobies to disappear for days, maybe even a week? Do they hibernate or is it possible my pistol killed and ate it?

Not likely the pistol killed it but if it died it would not hesitate to eat the goby. The goby might just be hiding. Sometimes fish "disappear" for weeks at a time. What happens if you target feed that burrow? Also, get a flashlight and check it at night.

These are notorious jumpers. Also check overflow box and sump

Great question, I’ll have to go find out now

Target fed both entrances and the shrimp came out a little, I’ll check later tonight and give it another week

I guess I didn’t check well enough… it did jump out and I just found it’s dried up body….
Oh no - sorry to hear. a screen or other cover is essential when having this type of fish

My first goby jumped in my QT tank the only 1" x 1" the rest had a lid cover

My second goby made it through QT and vanished in my display after 2 weeks

Needless to say I am done with goby fish .
i feel you, i have tried 3 diferent gobies, all jumped no matter how hard i tried to seal the tank

I actually had a Diamond Goby who was rather large like about 3" jump through a cover I had. The cover was that white grate they use for lighting it only had 1/2" x 1/2" holes and he somehow jumped through one.

I don't understand how something that spends 100% of the time in the sand bed is the worst jumper on the reef hahha explain that to me
i have heard of few possibilities. one is the sanded is not deep enough or no place to hide, second is they jump becouse they get scared of something/someone
