Hey guys, so I'm in the planning phase for my Fluval 13.5 Evo tank and was wondering if a pistol shrimp goby pair is pheasable and if I would be able to have more than just the pair (like a clown pair or something)? I'm also planning on some coral eventually once things start going, so would there be any issues with that?

nope. It would work fine since the goby and shrimp are bottom dwellers.

Very cool, as for other stock what would you recommend? I was thinking of a gramma or a singular clown but not sure.

Grammas and lone clowns can be aggressive.

I would buy a peaceful mated pair of clowns.
Thats what I figured, but size wise i dont wanna cramp in too many. Almost tempted to have just the goby/shrimp combo and some ornamental shrimp, then a nice CUC.

I have a small pair of mated clowns in a 10g. With the shrimp and goby being bottom dwellers already, more shrimp wouldnt be a good idea.

Some snails though would be a good addition.

Even just one or two? Is it more of a compatibility issue with the pistol shrimp? Only reason i ask is because I've read that some like the tiger can work with ornamental shrimps. But snails were a guarantee

13g is a rather small home for more than 1 shrimp.

In a tank that small I would recommend one of the smaller species of shrimp gobies and a candy cane pistol shrimp. I would also recommend using pvc pipe to make a tunnel for them. This keeps them from completely moving around your sand bed and also posistions them wherever you want.

Good to know, i will definitely have to do this.

Got a tiger pistol shimp in my 13.5 gal since day one and he's done great. He does a wonderful job of keeping the sand clean, but does tend to bury my mushroom corals. I had a goby with him but went on vacation and it jumped out. So right now he shares his tank with a non aggressive damsel and a pajamas cardinal

Sorry to hear about the goby, I've had multiple fish jump out. I love the look of the tiger shrimps tho, which is why i wanna do this next tank lol

Yeah, I only see him at night shortly after the lights go out. Been thinking of picking up another goby to join him

I just setup my first tank and added a wheeler goby and tiger pistol shrimp, and then plan to add a pair of clowns as well. Looks like we have the same idea!

I've read alot on how people rarely see them. Hooefully ill have dome coral in there to make that up lol

Very cool! I gotta get through this week and get paid so I can get this tank . I swear reading these forums is a good and a bad thing.

Yes that would work! Just be careful with other shrimps, pistols can be nasty. Ive had a super mean one who killed other shrimp, then the one I have now thats peaceful

Mine were lucky enough to pair up right as they hit the water and if you check out my build thread you can see them in action! very cool fish and so far I still see the goby and shrimp digging!
