I would like a sand sifting goby for my 55 gallon tank. I like the diamonds but I'm planning on mostly 3-4 inch fish. Would a diamond get to big for this community? If so, what kind of goby do you recommend?

I think it will be fine - and it would take a long time to reach full size (years). They can and do dispense a lot of sand all over the tank. Fine in a FOWLR - not as great with corals.

I personally perfer the gold-headed sleeper goby: it's a gorgeous fish. But both are fine choices, and you can (and should, in a new tank) give it supplemental feedings with sinking pellets and mysis.
Take special care in planning out the substrate of your tank. Special grade is best for sand-sifters, as they will cloud up a tank with oolite. You'll also have to be careful with any and all coral you place on the substrate.
