I got a used set up off of craigslist and the sand that was in there was filthy. The only live stock that came with the tank were a bunch of shrimp, snails, and hermit crabs. Are there any issues for those guys going bare bottom for awhile? I won't be buying new sand for a couple months so if it is an issue I'll just try and clean the previous sand the best I can.

I just went from a four inch sand bed to bare bottom... All I got to say is my life got a whole lot easier. No worries about diatoms, cyano, sand getting everywhere... It's so easy to clean my tank now and my parameters are better than ever. I'm so glad I switched over. You don't realize how much sand dirtys up your tank until you remove it.

I personally like a bare bottom tank, it's easier to clean, I have had both a deep sand bed and bare bottom with success. Good luck with your new aquarium!
