Going from radion G2 to G3

thanks for stopping in and reading this.

just a quick question for the radion crew. Im currently running 2 xr30 gen2, but have the opportunity to upgrade to the gen3. LFS has three(3) Gen3 they are trying to hustle. the lights are used, but only 1 year old and always less than 50%. Just wondering for those that have gone from the G2 to G3 and what, if any, are the added benefits. Do you like the G3 that much more than the G2?

My Gen2 have only been used for a few months also less than 50%, I got them for the upgrade but then put it off for a year+.

Seriously considering grabbing the G3 and then selling off my G2 to offset the cost.

G3 will give you the indigo and UV spectrums. Read that UV is important spectrum for growth over the other colors such as green and red but don't know enough to talk about that.

been a while but I remember it was worth the upgrade for me colors going from G1 to a G1 Pro which is what I still use.

I upgraded my gen 1's to gen 3's and the first thing I noticed was the difference in the blue color. Much more crisp blue. Not sure if it's the uv or if there were new blue leds used in the gen 3's.
But IMO, gen 3 is the only way to go.

yeah, im thinking it will be worth it. I know everytime ETM puts out a new gen, its usually much better. The UV would be nice too! the lights im looking at arent pros, i wish, but figure G3 is better than G2. then Id just hustle my G2s.

thanks for stoppin in finn. glad to hear youre stoked with the G3, seems to be pretty decent consensus, that they work much better than the previous gens. My only worry is getting the G3 used, and then the G4 drops in a month. LOL
how long have you been running the G3? did you do the retro upgrade or just buy new G3?

Im gonna be upgrading, by buying G3 lights from a friend. However, ETM has the option to send in your old(G1,G2) units and have them upgraded to the G3/G3p guts.

got the G3 radions! just finished taking off the front plate and cleaning out the fans, they were pretty dirty/dusty. looking better. Now I just need to find the proper tool to secure the threaded mounting hardware and its game on! hopefully that will happen today. might even get the MP40qd installed too!

anybody else had this happen on their radions? not sure I have a tool small enough for the job, off to the hardware store i suppose.

I bought a Radion second hand and it had a hanging kit that was 4 screws with short pieces of cable and eyelets. The cables went front screw holes to back screw holes with a little slack in the cable. ( there was some other lengths of cable with it)
At first I thought it was some sort of diy project with security screws. But I went to my tool box and found a small Allen wrench fit the holes perfectly. It was small, maybe about 1/8" ?
Later I saw a Radion hanging kit that looked very similar and it did contain a small allen wrench with it.

it was super tiny, 2mm or smaller, already forgot. lol

found the tiny hex wrench at the hardware store. that black eyelet above the hole was the threading that the hanging kit and mounting rail screw into. had a few that were loose, but took care of that! gottem all cleaned up and reset, now to hang em up and link em in.

got the G3 installed today! looking forward to seeing the difference. that UV channel and better blues really help, from what folks have been saying

I got a second hand g1 that i haven't even fired up yet. Really wish I just bought the g3 now argh!

i went from G2 to G3, hoping it was worth it. I got em used(1year old, used under 40%) from LFS for a decent price along with an apex.
So, I suppose Ill have some G2 for sale soon...or keep em as backups. lol

you know you can always just do the upgrade from gen 1 to gen 3.

Having said that you will have to wait until the upgrade kits are back in stock.
