I got fed up with dealing with cyano. I stopped dosing aminos, didnt help. Added more flow, corals loved it, cyano could careless. I plan on dosing it tomo after a wc, i dont really have any air pumps, i have very good action near the top to promote gas exchange and a good sized skimmer. If i just run the skimmer without the cup will i be fine. Honestly, i just want to see my sandbed, its pretty annoying. For those wondering my nutrients are at .06 phos, 5 ppm nitrate. Alk 8.6 calc 410 mag 1350 sal 1.026 Ph 8.3-8.5. I checked my rodi filters, and the di looks halfway depleted, going to order new filters tomo. Could that be the problem?

Leaving the main question to the algae professors, before going chemiclean, can you vacuum the sand bed?

I used chemiclean for cyano my skimmer went nuts it kept overflowing for a good 8 hours and the collection cup filled up 75 percent in one day it wiped everything out powerful stuff lol

Not really, i have the really fine sand, i have been stirring it for the past half year, but the cyano just returns overnight. Im like 95 percent sure its my rodi filter. But i plan on removing a bunch before dosing

Why do you feel it's the RO/DI? I ask because I have long term issue with cyano. It's pretty slight but it is persistant and I never considered the possibility of it being RO/DI related. I just recently changed all my filters and membrane but my DI is not exhausted (still test 0 TDS) so I left it be for the time being

I havent changed them in 9 months, should prob buy a tds meter. Corals are happy and growing, its just the cyano

I am confused as to why you would dose if you know it is your RO/DI?

Correct the RO/DI and then move on with it. If not there are many creatures that are very kewl that eat cyano. Also there are many creatures that stir the bed and keep it from really getting a foot hold. IMO quick fixes usually have long term consequences. They also get you in the mindset that treating symptoms is really some kind of solution.

My 2 cents.

I wish i read that before dosing it, my new ro filters arrive in a few days. I dosed a half dose, tank is a 29g. I have a pretty big skimmer for my tank. Its rated for a 75g. Im letting it overflow for a day and tomorrow ill start skimming again. I should be good for oxygenation right?
