Hubby (who previously wanted absolutely nada to do with me taking up the hobby again) decided he read about sand-sifting gobies, and was tired of cleaning my sand. I have been out of town for a month and he had to take up cleaning duties. I went to the goby section at my lfs, and saw two gold headed gobies in one tank. The problem was, they were swimming together, so I couldn't buy just one. I bought the pair. I've read all the nightmare stories, but so far in quarantine, they have not touched the sand, preferring instead the pvc tubes I placed in and half buried. I will be moving those with them and all the extra sand I had to put in the QT for them to the main display once QT is over. Main display only has about an inch of sand in it. They are little pigs though, and can eat a whole cube of frozen carnivore diet in one sitting.
How much food can these guys eat in one day? The female is almost 3 inches, the male about 4. Hubby has read that the common cause of death for these fish is not giving them enough to eat. My tank has been up since June, and it's a 6 footer/125g. I added a bottle of pods around August with only a scopas and 6-line in the display. I would think one cube is plenty, but wanted to feel out some more experienced folk. I've only kept mandarins in the past. These guys are up as soon as I turn on the kitchen light, and waiting patiently for food.
